Start early because it's a full day. The drive from the cloud forest down to the Pacific coast is one of the most dramatic landscape changes you'll experience. You go from 1400m elevation to sea level. Ask your driver to take the route past Esparza — the views of the Gulf of Nicoya are worth it.
