Leave early from Manuel Antonio — the morning drive up through the mountains is beautiful and you beat the afternoon rain near Arenal. Ask your driver about the Tarcoles crocodile bridge on the way out — it's a cool 10-minute stop. You'll be in La Fortuna by early afternoon with time for hot springs.
